By the way, it's been awhile but I'd still like to wish you all a happy New Year and God's blessings for health and happiness.

PS... I've also tried to pretty up this blog by adding a picture and now I can't remember how to do it... old age isn't pretty either. sigh

I'm back!

You know - getting old is no fun!!! I haven't signed into Xanga for ages because for awhile I didn't have anything to say and by the time I did, I'd forgotten my password. Then I went on a holiday and forgot my garage door code. For 2 days I went out the basement door into the garage. I went to the bank, punched in my pin and remembered the code. And yesterday, out of the blue, Xanga came back. Arrgh! My beloved says he has a nice home picked out for me. :)

Mass Choir Concert

The mass choir performance was held this past weekend at the Bell Centre for the Performing Arts in Surrey, BC.  The choir was made up of choirs from Alberta and BC.  I went to the Saturday afternoon performance and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  I was particularly impressed with the performance of Jeremy Ludwig.  What an amazing gift this young man has been given.  I am sure the day will come when his CDs will be sold along side of Ben Heppner and Il Divo.

And in the audience, my friend Cora and her grand-daughter.

This is my friend Mary from Coaldale Alberta.  Mary and I met in Calgary when we both lived there in the early 1970's.  She was part of the choir that came from southern Alberta.  After the afternoon performance, we went out for dinner and had a great time of reconnection.  And yes, I pre-ordered a CD of the concert.

Dine 'n Dash

In order to promote fellowship and more opportunities for our members to get to know each other, the church has put on a Dine 'n dash.  We had quite a few members sign up and our dining adventure was repeated at different locations all over town.  What a bunch of fun!  This year Andy and I hosted the dinner.

We met K.J. and Yueng Su at Jane and Herman Woltjer's for appetizers.

Then it was a quick dash down the street to our house to host Shawn , Ben, James and Michelle for dinner.  We served a Chicken Artichoke bake with a garden salad and fresh bakery buns.

And then another quick dash across town to have dessert with Karel and Hillie Le Grand.  Got to meet.......

Rudy and Tina Van Pypen

Doug and Charla Kok

and our hosts, Karel and Hillie le Grand.  Our dessert was fresh fruit and whipped cream, cheesecake and gourmet coffee.  Yummy!!  (I was good and only had the fruit...and the whipped cream...)

All our appetizers were amazing however K.J. was most impressed with the chicken wings.  When I asked Jane for the recipe, she gave me the whole book and I've been having fun going through it.  I found the recipe for the chicken wings easily because it is on a well- worn page.

Savory Chicken Wings

3 lbs chicken wings (Jane used drumettes)
1 cup soy sauce
3 tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 c. honey
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 garlic gloves

Mix soy sauce with all the ingredients.  Brush all sides of the chicken ( I noticed that Jane had skinless drumettes..perhaps you have to do that yourself....ewww), let stand for 3-4 hours brushing frequently with the sauce.  Put the chicken on a rack in a shallow pan and bake at 350F for 50 minutes or until tender.  Brush often during baking.  This recipe freezes well and can be re-heated.

Something to give....

A few weeks ago I was invited to the Women's Conference sponsored by the House of James and New Life church in Abbotsford.  My friend from art class lead the conference.  It was all about something we each had to give to each other through music, laughter and books.  Carolyn Arends was the keynote speaker - playing guitar and singing her own special music and in between songs, telling her story in praise of her Saviour.  I was so impressed with her music and bluegrassy style that I bought 2 CDs and her book "Wrestling with Angels".  The afternoon was all about sharing laughter through exercises that promote laughter....that's what we're doing with our arms in the air....that's called the hilarious laugh!  And it was very funny - and the final speaker representing House of James talked about all the wonderful stories, commentaries and gifts available to give.  I had a great time meeting friends I hadn't seen in years.  And I've been enjoying Carolyn's music almost non-stop!  (PS.  Sorry about the double slide show...I promise I won't do it again.  :))
